According to the tale, there was a diamond and it was obtained by Lord Pigot during his term as the British governor of Madras and he brought the diamond to France in the late 18th century. After a while the diamond was sold to Napoleon Bonaparte's mother who wore it for some years. However, Napoleon and Captain Camus were held in captivity until the beginning of the 19th century. Receiving the bad news, Napoleon’s mother decided to sell the diamond in the expectation of her son’s and Captain Camus’ freedom in exchange.
